intimus 9000 Degausser
The intimus 9000 is the solution for organizations disposing of mass quantities of hard drives and magnetic media with sensitive data.
- Fast 9 second degauss cycle (entrance to exit)
- Degausses modern HDDs up to 12TB in capacity
- Small, lightweight and portable (66 lbs/30 kg)
- Computer-controlled with optional photo output of degaussed drive.
- Exceeds new expanded audit recommendations.
- Complies with NIST, PCI 3.2, HIPAA, CE, and the major data protection directives.
- NATO listed and NSM certified
Will the intimus 9000 degauss HDDs written with shingled formatting?
Yes. Shingled media has the same coercivity (magnetic resistance) as typical hard drives utilizing perpendicular recording methods.
How can I tell that a hard drive has been successfully degaussed?
After the intimus 9000 has degaussed a hard drive, the drive will have no servo tracks. Servo tracks are the first organized data laid onto a new HDD platter by the manufacturer. Degaussing with the intimus 9000 eliminates the servo tracks and all data associated to and organized by them, rendering the drive unrecoverable by any means. To determine if the HDD is degaussed, use a common USB adapter to connect the drive to a working computer. Usually, the drive will not mount at all. However, some manufacturers have drive information stored on the logic board of the drive that will identify its model and date of manufacture. But upon further review of the drive information, you will find that no data exists.
The intimus 9000 uses a powerful magnetic field to destroy data on the HDD or tape. Is that field safe for humans and other memory media?
The design of the intimus 9000 contains strong magnetic fields within the degausser. Magnetic emissions outside the degausser are minimal, and are of a lower power than those generated by a typical smartphone.
How long will the intimus 9000 last?
Longevity is always a product of user behavior and the operating environment. However, if minimal maintenance is performed at normal intervals, and the unit is operated in an office environment within the environmental specifications of the machine, it is likely to achieve a lifetime of 150,000 cycles.
Has the intimus 900 deguasser been evaluated by the NSA?
No. The intimus 9000 is not on the NSA evaluated list. The NSA evaluation process is clearly above and beyond the requirements of any agency or company that does not have Top Secret and above data. If your company or agency has data that warrants being kept in a constantly guarded safe, or a data center requiring armed guards inside a secure facility with multiple secure perimeters and zones, which is only transported via armored truck with armed guards, then please consider our intimus 20000 NSA-evaluated degausser. If the description above does not resemble your firm’s security regimen, then the intimus 9000 is more than adequate. While both units completely destroy data, the intimus 20000 provides additional degaussing power for future-proofing against unforeseen technological developments in data recovery.
Will the intimus 9000 degausser erase solid state media like SSDs, thumb drives or flash memory?
No. Solid state memory uses electric voltage to store data, whereas HDDs use magnetic media. A degausser may damage solid state media and cause latent defects, but will not typically alter the stored data sufficiently enough to prevent recovery. Solid state memory must be physically destroyed in order to render data unrecoverable. Intimus features several products specifically designed to destroy solid state media.
